Albemarle County Woman Killed in Parking Lot Accident

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — A 93-year-old woman from Albemarle County tragically lost her life after being struck by a car that was backing out of a parking space at Scottsville Center on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on January 12, when first responders were called to the scene after receiving reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers and emergency personnel found Noreen Wilbourn, 93, suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts to save her, Wilbourn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later determined that Wilbourn had arrived at Scottsville Center as a passenger in the vehicle that struck her. The driver, who remains unidentified, was backing out of a parking space when the car’s passenger side front door struck Wilbourn, knocking her to the ground.

No further details have been released, and investigators are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
