4-Year-Old Boy Injured in Accidental Shooting in Richmond’s East End

Richmond, VA– A 4-year-old boy was injured in an accidental shooting early on New Year’s Eve in Richmond’s East End.

At approximately 1:59 a.m. on December 31, 2024, officers with the Richmond Police Department responded to the 1900 block of Maddox Street, near the Whitcomb area. Upon arrival, police discovered the young child with a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities have stated that detectives do not believe the child’s injuries were the result of foul play. While no suspects are being sought in the case, officials have indicated that the boy likely shot himself.

At this time, police are continuing their investigation into the incident, though no additional details have been released. They are urging anyone with information to contact Major Crimes Detective P. Bruington at 804-646-3930.
