Richmond, VA – A 36-year-old man is dead following a single-vehicle crash in Nottoway County early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred just after 3 a.m. on December 17, 2024, on Winningham Road, approximately one mile north of Indian Oak Road.
Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to the scene of the crash, where they discovered that the driver, identified as Lance O’Brian Stith, had been traveling in a 2019 GMC Terrain when the vehicle veered off the road. According to VSP, Stith’s vehicle struck a bridge before overturning into a nearby creek.
Despite emergency responders’ efforts, Stith was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which may have contributed to the fatal outcome.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Virginia State Police. Officers are working to determine whether speed, road conditions, or other factors may have played a role in the tragic accident.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of seatbelt safety and the potential dangers of driving at high speeds, particularly in rural areas with limited visibility. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and ensure they are properly secured while on the road.
More details will be released as they become available.
