Richmond Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Suspects in Robbery Near VCU

Richmond, VA — Richmond police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects involved in an armed robbery early Sunday morning near Virginia Commonwealth University’s Monroe Park campus.

The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on December 8, 2024, when two individuals approached a group of three people at the intersection of Broad Street and Ryland Street, near the entrance to a parking deck. According to authorities, the suspects asked the victims if they had any marijuana for sale. When the victims declined, the suspects followed them into a nearby parking garage at a private apartment complex on West Broad Street.

Once inside the garage, the suspects—who were reportedly wearing dark-colored masks—pulled out firearms and demanded the victims’ personal belongings. Police say the victims complied and handed over three cell phones, two wallets, and a drawstring bag containing a handgun. No injuries were reported during the incident.

According to the Richmond Police Department, the suspects waited on the sidewalk near the scene for nearly 20 minutes before following the victims into an alley off Ryland Street. After the robbery, the suspects were seen leaving the area in a vehicle, which was last spotted heading east on West Broad Street before merging onto Interstate 95 at East Broad Street and Franklin Street.

The suspects are described as wearing dark-colored clothing, though no further details have been provided about their appearance.

Detectives are urging anyone with information about the incident or the identities of the suspects to contact Detective Wiggins at 804-543-4099.
