Richmond, VA – According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the lane closures on the southbound I-95 general purpose lanes will occur as follows:
- 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday: One lane closed
- 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27: Two lanes closed
- 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday: One lane closed
Drivers should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes.
Once the lane closures are complete, all the southbound I-95 general purpose lanes along the bridge over Powells Creek will be temporarily shifted to the left. This shift is scheduled to be in place until late spring.
The work is part of the I-95 over Powells Creek Bridge Rehabilitation Project, which is improving safety and extending the overall life of the northbound and southbound I-95 general purpose lanes bridges over Powells Creek.
The bridges were built in 1963, repaired in 1976 and widened in 1981 and 1996.
The project includes repairing steel beams and concrete abutments and piers, replacing bearings, closing deck joints and repainting the bridges.
