Starting Friday, Feb. 16, Route 17 traffic will be split temporarily between the new and original bridge spans over I-95 until construction is complete

Richmond, VA – According to the state officials, motorists on Route 17 in Spotsylvania County will be shifted into a temporary traffic pattern next week near the Interstate 95 overpass.

Starting on Friday, Feb. 16, traffic on southbound Route 17 will be shifted slightly to the right to cross the new overpass of I-95.

Traffic will remain in the new pattern until construction is complete on the road widening and bridge replacement project underway.

Travel lanes are shifting to provide construction crews space to finish building the median of the new four-lane interstate overpass.

Northbound Route 17 traffic will continue to cross the original I-95 overpass.

Construction on the $23.5 million project began in Dec. 2020 and was scheduled to be completed in late February 2024. Completion of the project is now anticipated in May 2024.

As part of the project, a shared-use path is being built along the southern side of Route 17 and sidewalk is being built along the northern side of Route 17. Pedestrian crossing equipment and crosswalks will be added at crossing locations.
