Will the shortage of cancer drugs impact Bismarck?

Bismarck, North Dakota – The lack of cancer drugs is still causing issues for people all around the country.

According to a survey conducted by the National Cancer Comprehensive Network, several of the biggest cancer centers in the country are having trouble obtaining enough cisplatin and carboplatin.

We had a conversation with Sanford’s lead oncology pharmacist, Sarah Anderson, to find out the measures being taken to prevent patients from having to change their treatment regimens.

“We utilize multiple wholesalers. We also put backorders in place, so when new lots become available, we potentially have access to that medication coming through as well,” said Anderson.

Anderson stated that although precautions are being taken, they are unsure of when the scarcity would end.
