Every spring, Dakota Woodturners host a symposium

Bismarck, North Dakota – This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Dakota Woodturners. They are a group that meets regularly to exchange ideas in an effort to advance the art of woodturning.

The organization’s Annual Spring Symposium was conducted this past weekend at the Bismarck Public Schools Career Academy on the Bismarck State College campus. The two-day symposium included courses for woodturners conducted by well-known wood artists as well as a gallery of members’ artwork. The Dakota Woodturners’ president discusses why it’s crucial to hold this celebration each year.

“It helps expose the woodturners to outside professionals. It also gives us the opportunity to kind of share, to get some hands-on and actually turn, not just watch a YouTube video,” said Mark Kielpinski, president of Dakota Woodturners.
