Construction continues even during the winter weather

Bismarck, Noh Dakota – Each construction season, the city of Bismarck typically takes on 20 to 30 projects, with the first snow of the year typically serving as a reliable indicator of when that season is ended.

Projects typically end by the first week of November, according to city engineers, but not this year.

Even though it is snowing and windy, the city has road cones up and employees working.

“We’re still waiting on some light poles and some traffic signal infrastructure and some crash attenuation cushions, but most of the concrete work is completed. All the concrete for the road and curbs and the majority of the sidewalk is completed. They’ll just be some catch-up items to finish next spring once weather allows,” said Gabe Schell, Bismarck city engineer.

They will store the traffic cones and wait until the spring to continue work, according to Schell, if the projects are not urgent and the parts they require won’t arrive on time.
