North Dakota – The North Dakota Emergency Commission has authorized $2.5 million for the Emergency Feed Transportation Assistance Program, which will help livestock farmers who have lost feed supply due to drought recover a part of their hay transportation costs.
The emergency grant program, according to Gov. Doug Burgum and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, will be limited to livestock owners who experience “verifiable feed losses due to drought circumstances” and must buy and transport supplemental feed between April 8 and Nov. 30.
A portion of the feed transportation expenses will be subsidized. Producers must keep accurate records of their livestock inventory and hay transportation costs.
The program will be funded by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, which will borrow the money from the Bank of North Dakota, according to a press release.
Producers can email haytransport@nd.gov or call 1-844-642-4752 for more information.
Applications are available on the Department of Agriculture’s website at www.nd.gov/ndda in mid-September and will close on Dec. 15.
