Portland, OR – Portland Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched at the scene at a commercial building along Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard following a 911 call in regards to a fire incident.
According to the incident report, the fire started just before 12 p.m. near Southeast 13th and Southeast Hawthorne.
The smoke that was coming out of the building could be seen from the Portland Shriners Hospital Cam.
Less than an hour after the fire crews arrived at the scene, the categorized the fire incident as a third alarm category in called for additional crews to arrive at the scene to help them extinguish the fire.
Reportedly, at least one firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transferred to the closest hospital for treatment following an explosion that occurred while he was at the building.
There is ongoing investigation that should reveal the cause of the fire. Officials with the fire department said that at least four businesses are completely burned or have heavy damage.
Officials said Hawthorne Boulevard will be closed into the evening at SE 11th and 15th streets.
