Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-95 in Richmond Involves Motorcycle, No Life-Threatening Injuries Reported

RICHMOND, Va. — All lanes have reopened following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 involving a motorcycle Sunday afternoon.

Virginia State Police responded to the incident at approximately 1:50 p.m. on June 1, near the Maury Street Exit 73 ramp in Richmond. According to authorities, the crash occurred when an SUV attempted to bypass traffic by driving on the right emergency shoulder lane to reach the exit ramp.

At the same time, a motorcycle experiencing mechanical issues and overheating was pulling off into the right shoulder when it was struck by the SUV. The impact caused the motorcycle to be pushed into a nearby tractor-trailer traveling in the adjacent lane, resulting in the motorcyclist becoming trapped underneath the motorcycle.

Emergency responders were able to assist the motorcyclist from beneath the bike. Officials confirmed that the rider did not sustain any life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV has been charged with reckless driving in connection to the crash.

All lanes on I-95 have since been cleared, and traffic flow has returned to normal.
