CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A 24-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 15-year-old girl who was fatally shot in Chesterfield County earlier this year.
Luis Manuel Cruz-Alfaro was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony following an investigation into a shooting that occurred on March 2. The incident unfolded around 12:22 a.m. when Chesterfield County police responded to the 6300 block of Pewter Avenue after receiving reports of gunshots.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. One of the victims, identified as a 15-year-old girl, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a man, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for life-threatening injuries.
Initially, a man found in the vehicle with the girl was arrested on March 5 and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. However, further investigation led detectives to identify Cruz-Alfaro as the individual responsible for both shootings. As a result, charges against the man arrested earlier were dropped.
According to authorities, the two men involved in the incident were acquainted with one another. While the precise motive remains under investigation, police continue to gather evidence and piece together the details surrounding the tragic shooting.
Detectives are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing as authorities work to fully understand the circumstances that led to the young girl’s death and the injuries sustained by the other victim.
