CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A shooting that initially left one man hospitalized has turned fatal, prompting Chesterfield County Police to upgrade charges against two teenage suspects to first-degree murder.
On the night of Tuesday, April 8, at approximately 10:23 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting in the 6200 block of Bimini Court. Upon arrival, they discovered 19-year-old Jose L. Barrera-Pinzon of Richmond suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders administered aid at the scene before transporting Barrera-Pinzon to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday, April 11, police confirmed.
An investigation led authorities to arrest two male suspects, ages 16 and 17, in connection with the shooting. The teens were initially charged with malicious wounding, attempted robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. However, following the victim’s death, police announced that the charges have been upgraded to first-degree murder.
Both juveniles are currently being held at the Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Home. Due to their ages, their names have not been released.
