Chesterfield County, VA – Chesterfield County residents have an exciting opportunity to dive into the world of firefighting and emergency services through the Chesterfield County Fire and EMS’ Citizens Fire Academy, which kicked off on Tuesday, April 8. The academy offers a series of engaging, hands-on classes designed to educate the public about fire safety and the inner workings of their local fire departments.
Classes will be held every Tuesday and Friday morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. throughout the month of April, with additional sessions on April 11, 15, 18, 22, 25, and 29. Participants will have the chance to interact with fire and EMS professionals, explore fire station facilities, and learn about the tools and equipment used in firefighting.
The academy’s curriculum includes a variety of informative and practical activities such as fire station tours, apparatus showcases, and in-depth equipment explorations. Attendees will also receive valuable fire safety presentations, hands-only CPR training, and fire extinguisher usage lessons. One of the highlights of the program is a presentation by the fire marshal’s office, where participants can learn about fire prevention and safety strategies in their own homes and communities.
In addition to the educational sessions, attendees will have the rare opportunity to meet Clover, an ATF arson detection K9 who works with the department to investigate suspicious fires. Clover’s appearance offers a unique insight into the role of animals in firefighting and arson investigations.
The academy is designed to provide an engaging and informative experience for all participants, with the goal of increasing community awareness about fire safety and fostering a stronger relationship between Chesterfield County’s residents and their first responders.
The program will conclude with a graduation ceremony on May 2, where participants will receive recognition for completing the course. For those interested in learning more or signing up for future sessions, further details can be found on the Chesterfield County Fire and EMS website.
