RICHMOND, Va. — A 17-year-old boy from Richmond has been arrested and charged with murder and the use of a firearm following the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old girl in the city’s Northside on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on April 2, when officers with the Richmond Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 1100 block of North 1st Street. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the young girl outside a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Authorities confirmed that the 17-year-old suspect, who is reportedly known to the victim, was arrested and charged with murder and the unlawful use of a firearm the following day, on April 3. The victim’s identity has not been officially released at this time.
The Medical Examiner’s office is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the precise cause and manner of the girl’s death.
