NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. — A former employee of Stay & Play Daycare in New Kent County has been charged following a thorough investigation into false child abuse allegations she made against the daycare.
The New Kent County Sheriff’s Office announced that the investigation, which began after the ex-employee reported the alleged abuse, concluded with no evidence to support the claims. Deputies interviewed multiple witnesses and followed up on the accusations, ultimately determining the allegations were unfounded and lacked credibility.
She’lea Haskins, 34, of Toano, is facing several charges, including False Report to Law Enforcement, Obstruction of Justice, and Slander. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the daycare had been cleared of any wrongdoing after the investigation was completed.
The charges stem from Haskins’ actions, which resulted in a disruption of daycare operations and raised concerns in the community. Authorities have stressed the importance of accurately reporting allegations to protect both the well-being of children and the integrity of individuals and organizations.
Haskins is scheduled to appear in court on March 4 at 8 a.m. to face the charges.
The case underscores the serious implications of making false allegations and the legal consequences that can follow. Law enforcement continues to emphasize the need for thorough investigations to ensure justice is served for both the accused and those making the claims.
