Fatal Crash in Brunswick County Claims the Life of Passenger

Brunswick County, Va. — A tragic single-vehicle crash on Boydton Plank Road resulted in the death of a 35-year-old man early Saturday morning, February 8. According to Virginia State Police (VSP), the incident occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. in the 16000 block of Boydton Plank Road (Route 1) in the Warfield area.

The investigation revealed that 43-year-old John Robert Daniel was driving a Honda Civic southbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered across all lanes of traffic, ran off the road, and struck a tree. Richard Duane Bennett II, a 35-year-old passenger in the front seat, died as a result of the crash.

Daniel, the driver, was transported to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Both men were reportedly not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, and authorities have confirmed that alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash.

The incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of wearing seatbelts. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.

The Virginia State Police continues to urge drivers and passengers to always wear seatbelts and never drive under the influence to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road.
