Henrico County, Va. — A large fire broke out at the Wingate by Wyndham Richmond Short Pump on the evening of Tuesday, February 4, causing extensive damage to the hotel.
Firefighters with the Henrico County Division of Fire were dispatched to the hotel at around 8:30 p.m. after reports of a fire. Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames engulfing the exterior of the building. The fire spread from the ground floor all the way up to the fifth floor, prompting a large-scale response.
A battalion chief on scene reported that, as of approximately 10 p.m., the fire had been successfully extinguished. Crews then focused on ventilating the building, as smoke had infiltrated the hotel’s interior.
While the blaze caused significant damage, a spokesperson confirmed that the fire sprinkler system had been triggered in one room, leading to water damage. However, the sprinkler system was isolated, preventing further issues.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among guests or staff. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with officials working to determine what sparked the blaze.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to assess the full extent of the damage, and further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
