Richmond, VA – Virginia State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man on Interstate 95 in Richmond on Monday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. on December 9, near the Maury Street exit, when troopers responded to a reported crash involving multiple vehicles.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered a 2021 Ford Escape, driven by Kevin James Irvin Jr., crashed into the guardrail. The vehicle, which had sustained multiple bullet holes on the driver’s side, was found with Irvin, a resident of Richmond, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite being transported to a nearby hospital, Irvin later died from his injuries.
The shooting led to a chain reaction involving four additional vehicles, which collided while attempting to avoid hitting Irvin’s car. Fortunately, none of the other drivers or passengers sustained serious injuries in the secondary crashes.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a dark-colored sedan near the Ford Escape before the shooting occurred. Virginia State Police have not yet disclosed a motive or identified any suspects but are actively seeking information from the public.
