NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. – Two men were seriously injured in a crash involving a golf cart on Thursday, May 8, in New Kent County. The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. on Pinehurst Drive in the Five Lakes subdivision.
According to the Virginia State Police, a 39-year-old man from Powhatan County was operating the golf cart on a designated trail when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic. A 29-year-old woman from Prince George County, driving a 2004 GMC pickup truck, was unable to avoid the collision, resulting in a crash.
The Powhatan County man, along with his passenger, a 69-year-old man from Hanover County, suffered serious injuries in the crash. Both men were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In response to the crash, the New Kent Sheriff’s Office announced that Pinehurst Drive would be closed for the duration of the investigation. As of 5:30 p.m., the road remained closed, and authorities advised local residents to use an alternative route through a golf course parking lot, where personnel were stationed to assist with detouring.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Virginia State Police. The condition of the injured men has not been released at this time.
Residents are urged to exercise caution in the area as the investigation continues.
