ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — Authorities in Albemarle County have announced multiple arrests in connection with a deadly shooting that took place in October 2024 and is believed to be gang-related.
On Saturday, October 19, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Albemarle County Police and Fire Rescue responded to the 1600 block of Rio Hill Drive following numerous reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered 23-year-old Zerrion Eubanks-Warfield of Charlottesville deceased at the scene. A second, unidentified victim sustained injuries but is expected to recover.
Gunfire also struck several nearby vehicles and apartment buildings, further escalating concerns about community safety in the area.
Six months after the shooting, police have charged three individuals in connection to the incident. On April 21, 2025, Albemarle County Police identified the suspects as 20-year-old Kaveigh Palmer of Richmond, 24-year-old Darnell Morris Jr. of Charlottesville, and Raymond Carter Jr., also of Charlottesville.
Each suspect faces seven felony charges, including:

One count of aggravated malicious wounding

One count of shooting with intent to maim or kill by mob

One count of felony gang activity

Two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony

Two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
Authorities had previously indicated the shooting could be gang-related. The formal charges of felony gang activity now confirm that investigators are pursuing that line of inquiry.
Carter and Morris are currently being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, while Palmer is in custody at the Richmond City Jail.
