Three additional outdoor emergency sirens are added in Bismarck

Bismarck, North Dakota – Emergency management wants to make sure that new neighbors can hear the emergency sirens because Bismarck is expanding.

Three new outdoor warning sirens are being installed by the city in Elk Ridge, Silver Ranch, and along 57th Avenue North.

The emergency management team in Bismarck is paying for the sirens with $84,000 in FEMA hazard mitigation grants.

Mandan will host Miracle Treat Day.

Those sirens are activated to alert those outside of a potential tornado warning of an emergency.

Gary Stockert, the emergency manager for Bismarck, advises people to assemble their families, go inside, and turn on a NOAA weather radio if they hear anything.

“The latest tornadoes on record in North Dakota are November 1st in 2000 here in Bismarck, and they touched down just here in the northwest part. If those same events happened today, they’d actually be touching Bismarck because of the growth,” Stockert said.

15% of the money allocated for the sirens will come from Bismarck.
