The Virginia Department of Transportation and Arlington County will hold an open house community information meeting on March 6, 2024, in the Oak and Hickory rooms of the Lubber Run Community Center

Richmond, VA – According to the state officials, the meeting will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and it will be about STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study assessing potential safety, multimodal and operational improvements for over two miles of Glebe Road between Columbia Pike and I-66.

Residents and travelers are invited to learn more and talk with the study team about proposed improvement alternatives that have been developed following the first round of public input last July.

Earlier this month, a two-week online survey collected public feedback on the proposed alternatives, which include but are not limited to:

  • Widening sidewalks to eight feet for a multi-use path on the west side of Glebe Road between 14th Street North and 13th Street North
  • Removing the leftmost southbound Glebe Road left turn lane at North Carlin Springs Road and widening the median to create a pedestrian refuge island
  • Changing the North Carlin Springs Road lane configuration in order to add a second left turn lane. Please note: By providing the eastbound dual left turn (Carlin Springs Rd) and the southbound right turn overlap (Glebe Rd), we are reducing the vehicular time required for the eastbound, westbound and southbound directions, which allows us to increase the pedestrian timing.  This additional time thus increases pedestrian safety benefits.
  • Adding a dedicated southbound Glebe Road left turn lane and dedicated northbound right turn lane at North Quincy Street, a bike lane on the southbound Glebe Road approach at North Quincy Street/North Henderson Street, and special transit signal heads for the southbound bus lane
  • Combining bus stops between 4th Street North and North Quebec Street into two new bus stops connected by a new crosswalk with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs)
  • Adding a dedicated southbound Glebe Road left turn lane at 7th Street South
  • Widening sidewalks to a minimum of five feet and making Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramp upgrades and installations between Columbia Pike and I-66
