Significant Traffic Delays Expected on I-95 South in Henrico County This Weekend

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – Drivers traveling along Interstate 95 South in Henrico County this weekend should plan for significant delays as a road improvement project continues. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced that the right and center lanes of I-95 South, near Parham Road, will be closed on Saturday, May 10, and Sunday, May 11, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for shoulder rehabilitation work.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the work zone by using the alternate route of I-295, which is expected to reduce travel time and minimize congestion. VDOT warns that the closures will lead to traffic backups, especially during peak travel hours, and advises drivers to prepare for longer commute times.

The project, which began in March, had initially been scheduled for mid-March but was postponed due to utility conflicts and unfavorable weather conditions. Despite the delays earlier this year, VDOT confirmed that the May work schedule is not due to any further conflicts. The department has simply stated that the project will continue as planned this weekend.

For those seeking more information or real-time updates, VDOT recommends calling 800-367-7623 or visiting the Virginia 511 website. Travelers can also dial 511 for up-to-the-minute traffic details.

As the weekend closures approach, drivers are urged to adjust their plans and account for the possible disruptions on I-95 South.
