Bismarck, North Dakota – Students who may otherwise struggle to get regular meals can be fed by organizations of all kinds, and a state program is looking for applicants to assist run an essential program to combat food insecurity.
The Department of Public Instruction in North Dakota is looking for 10 applicants to help manage the state’s Summer Food Service Program and assist in feeding children while classes are out for the summer, according to a request made by the state’s superintendent, Kirsten Baesler.
“The Department of Public Instruction is seeking applications from organizations interested in operating North Dakota’s Summer Food Service Program. The program offers meals to children when school is not in session, “said a representative from the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction.
Sponsors can come in various forms, including “residential summer camps, private nonprofit organizations, public schools, nonprofit private schools, and local, municipal, county, tribal or state government units.” Based on local school or census data, eligibility standards state that at least 50% of the meals must be free or at least reduced price.
