North Dakota reports 2 additional COVID-19 deaths

BISMARCK — Following are the North Dakota Department of Health COVID-19 case rates, deaths, hospitalizations and vaccinations as of Friday, April 23. Because all data is preliminary, some numbers and totals may change from one day to the next.

Statewide case rates

  • NEW CASES: 154
  • TOTAL ACTIVE CASES: 1,172
  • TOTAL CASES: 106,537
  • TOTAL RECOVERED: 103,879
  • DAILY TEST POSITIVITY RATE: 4.13%

North Dakota’s active case count increased by 21 on Friday. Cass County reported 35 positive cases, while Burleigh County reported 22 additional positive cases.

Hospitalizations, deaths

  • ACTIVE HOSPITALIZATIONS: 41
  • DEATHS, NEWLY REPORTED: 2
  • TOTAL DEATHS: 1,486

The Department of Health reported the deaths of a Cass County woman in her 50s and a Burleigh County woman in her 80s.

Vaccinations

  • FIRST DOSE ADMINISTERED: 273,139 (46.6% of population)
  • COMPLETED SERIES (TWO DOSES): 233,259 (39.8% of population)

A total of 525,699 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered statewide. However, demand for the COVID-19 vaccine has significantly slowed down, leaving unused doses sitting in storage. The Department of Health is encouraging residents to get vaccinated to help the state achieve herd immunity and prevent others contracting severe symptoms caused by the virus.
