North Dakota agriculture officials report second cattle anthrax case in Kidder County

North Dakota – A second case of cattle anthrax has been reported on Friday in Kidder County by the agriculture officials in North Dakota.

According to officials, farmers in the county and neighboring areas should contact their veterinarians to see if they should begin vaccinations.

Bacterial spores cause the illness, which can lay dormant in the ground for decades before becoming active under perfect conditions like dryness.

More than 500 verified animal deaths from anthrax were reported in 2005, with more than 1,000 livestock losses estimated.
