ND Legislative Committee is considering a snow day replacement

Bismarck, North Dakota – Major snowstorms may result in a free day off for many children in the state, but state legislators are trying to change that.

The North Dakota Legislative Committee is debating a proposal to substitute virtual learning days for customary snow days.

Districts currently have the authority to determine whether or not snow days will be used for virtual learning. There is no state regulation in North Dakota that limits the number of virtual learning days that students may take.

The committee is collecting information on the cost of virtual schooling, how effective it is for commuting in the cold, and what hourly workers’ compensation is for virtual days. Legislators will also examine other states’ virtual learning day policies.
