CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A motorcyclist is in critical condition following a crash Thursday evening in Chesterfield County. Authorities say the incident occurred when a vehicle pulled out in front of the motorcyclist, causing a violent collision.
At approximately 8:49 p.m. on April 17, officers from the Chesterfield County Police Department responded to the scene of the crash, located at the intersection of Genito Road and Watercove Road. Investigators have determined that the motorcyclist was traveling west on Genito Road when a vehicle, which had stopped at the intersection near the Chesterfield County Fire & EMS Swift Creek Station 16, failed to see the motorcyclist and pulled out in front of them.
The impact of the crash left the motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries, and they were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been released, was unharmed in the collision.
A spokesperson from the Chesterfield County Police Department confirmed that charges are pending as the investigation continues. However, no further details have been made available at this time.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has closed off the area surrounding the crash site, and authorities have indicated that road closures may remain in effect for several hours while the investigation and cleanup take place.
The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers on the road, particularly for motorcyclists, who are often more vulnerable in collisions involving larger vehicles. Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution when approaching intersections and always be mindful of their surroundings.
The Chesterfield County Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
