Man Sentenced to Over Three Years for Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. — Hassan Julian Roberts, 42, was sentenced on Tuesday, June 2, to more than three years in federal prison after being found guilty of possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

The conviction followed an investigation by the FBI that began in November 2020, when agents received a tip through the KIK messenger app regarding a user operating under the username “Boredani.” Authorities suspected the user was distributing videos believed to contain child sexual abuse material.

On December 8, 2021, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Roberts’ residence, seizing several electronic devices and an external hard drive belonging to him. A forensic examination of the hard drive revealed over 100 files containing CSAM, including videos depicting prepubescent minors engaged in sexual acts.

The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating the growing problem of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Roberts’ sentencing underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute individuals involved in the distribution and possession of illicit materials that exploit children.
