Legislators in North Dakota to consider limits on Emergency Commission spending methods

Bismarck, North Dakota – The Emergency Commission’s budgetary restrictions will likely be changed, according to the North Dakota Legislature.

A new measure would replace dollar expenditure caps with percentages of the general fund of the state.

The governor-led commission’s spending restrictions were implemented as a result of anger with the panel’s decision to allocate more than $1 billion in federal coronavirus help without seeking feedback from lawmakers.

According to Governor Doug Burgum, the state’s capacity to spend money is hampered by expenditure limitations.
