North Dakota’s Bismarck It appears that a bill prohibiting foreign governments from purchasing land in North Dakota may soon become state law.
According to officials, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 2371 last week. Supporters of the bill claimed that it is important to stop foreign foes from purchasing land within state boundaries due to dangers to national security.
Government authorities predict that Governor Doug Burgum will sign the legislation. This month saw the passage of a related bill that forbids foreign governments from purchasing agricultural products in North Dakota.
These bills were approved after the Fufeng agreement was formally terminated in Grand Forks on April 21 and a formal halt was instituted on February 7. The transaction included buying land so that a grain milling and processing business could be constructed far from the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
