It was an uber successful weekend for the Herd

The North Dakota State Men’s and Women’s Track Field teams competed in the Bison Classic last Saturday at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Facility. The meet featured NDSU, the University of North Dakota and Minnesota State University-Moorhead.

The first big win for the men’s team saw several Bison runners place in the men’s one-mile run. Alex Bartholomay finished in first with a time of 4:12.85. Bartholomay was followed by Josh Samyn who finished in second with 4:19.72 and Isaac Huber in third with a 4:20.39 run.

Bison hurdler Trent Davis had a great day for the Herd, as he won the men’s’ 60-meter event with a time of 8.24 seconds. The Bison sprinters dominated the 400-meter dash, as Adrian Harris set a meet record with a time of 48.66. Harris was shadowed by fellow teammate Jacob Rodin who finished with 48.67 as Cody Roder trailed the pair finishing in third with 49.60. Dante White won the 60-meter dash for the Herd with a time of 6.94.

Jackson Tracy won the 800-meter event for NDSU with 1:57.45, Beau Brannan trailed him finishing second with 1:57.50. Alex Brosseau won the 200-meter Dash for the Bison with a time of 22.64. MSUM notched a win over NDSU, as runner Nadir Yusuf won the 3000-meter run for the Dragons with a time of 8:28. The Herd won the 4×400 meter relay with a time 3:23.21, the relay team featured Harris, Darrien Lipscomb, Roder and Rodin.

NDSU won big in the Men’s Weight Throw as the Herd took places first through fifth. Alex Talley set a meet record with a throw of 21.83m, followed by Trevor Otterdahl who threw a 21.68m, Maxwell Otterdahl threw a 19.92m, Tyler Gilliland threw a 18.03 and Levi Rockey threw a 17.36. The Herd dominated the shot-put event with eight throwers placing in first through eight, Talley won the event with a throw of 19.57m.

The Herd’s Brandon Lewis won the triple jump leaping a distance of 14.62m, fellow teammate Koate Deebom jumped 14.09m placing second.  The Bison vaulted into places first through third in the pole vault, as Jens Christensen won the event with a pole vault of 4.45, Jacob Van Dusseldorp and Tony Ukkelberg both finished with 4.30m.

The Men’s team won the team event rankings with 196, UND finished in second with 106, and MSUM in third with 78.

On the Women’s side of things, the Bison dominated the 60 meter hurdles event with Ansley Schug setting a meet record with a time of 8.73, Salmata Korgho took second with 8.85 and Jenna Kes took third with 9.24.  Kendra Kelley won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.71 seconds, Katie Heilman took third in the event with a time of 8.05. In the 800m run, Peyton Frolek got the win for the Herd with 2:14.69, Brita Birkeland took third with 2:17.87 and Katie Bye took fourth with 2:23.16.

Schug also won the 200m dash with a time of 25.91 seconds. Melina Kuerschner won the 3000m for the Bison with a time of 10:05.46, she was followed by Hannah Oscarson from UND for second with 10:15.37, and fellow teammate Alliana Houfek with 10:21.52 for third. The Bison won the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:56.09, the team consisted of Cora Anderson, Jacee Johannsen, Abby Kallenbach and Allie Nelson.

Maddy Nilles got the win for NDSU in the weight throw event, she threw a 22.66m. The Bison took over the women’s shot-put event with Akealy Moton winning the event with a throw of 17.18m. Shelby Gunnells took second with a throw of 16.92m, Tasha Willing took third with 15.57m, Amanda Anderson got third with 15.28, Nilles took fifth with 15.24m.

In the long jump event, it was NDSU filling up the leaderboard with Grace Emineth winning the event leaping 5.61m, Merritt Beil followed with 5.18 for second and Alissa Melvin finished in third with 4.85.

Daejha Moss won the triple jump for the Herd with a jump of 11.38m. Moss also won the high jump event with a meet record height of 1.78m Moss was followed by teammate Bailey Cowling who jumped 1.75m. Katie Berglund took home first place for the Herd in the Pole Vault event with a vault of 3.60m, teammate Jocelyn Dinius got second with 3.50m

The Bison Women won the meet with 196 points, UND came in second place with 106 points and MSUM brought up the rear with 78 points.

The Bison Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams will travel to Brookings, SD next Saturday for the Jim Emmerich Invitational.
