Hopewell Man Arrested in Connection with Series of Violent Crimes

HOPEWELL, Va. – A 21-year-old man from Hopewell has been arrested and charged following a string of violent crimes that occurred late Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Regenald Conwell, of Hopewell, was taken into custody after a series of incidents, including theft, assault, and sexual battery. Police responded to the first reported crime around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, when a victim in the 200 block of East Broadway reported that their cell phone had been forcibly grabbed by a suspect who fled the scene.

About an hour later, at 12:21 a.m., police were dispatched to the same block, where a second robbery had occurred. Authorities say the suspect entered a residence, assaulted the occupant, and stole several personal items, including a cell phone. Upon investigation, officers discovered that the stolen phone from the initial incident had been recovered inside the residence.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., police responded to a third call for service, this time in the 1200 block of City Point Road. There, a victim reported a sexual assault and larceny after the suspect entered the building, assaulted the victim, and stole various personal items, including a cell phone.

Following these incidents, Conwell was arrested and now faces a range of charges, including:

  • Two counts of felony grand larceny
  • Felony aggravated malicious wounding
  • Felony robbery
  • Misdemeanor sexual battery
  • Misdemeanor indecent exposure
  • Misdemeanor preventing the use of 911

Conwell is currently being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail. Authorities have asked anyone with additional information about the crimes to contact the Hopewell Criminal Investigations Unit at (804) 541-2284.
