Hopewell, Va. — A Hopewell man has been arrested in connection with two separate burglaries at the same Dollar General store in a span of just one week. The incidents occurred at the store located at 310 East Broadway, and both involved the same method of entry: forced entry through the front door.
The first burglary took place on Tuesday, March 25, at approximately 12:30 a.m. Officers with the Hopewell Police Department responded to a report of a break-in at the Dollar General store. Upon arrival, investigators determined that the suspect had broken the glass of the front door to gain entry to the store. Once inside, the individual stole an undisclosed amount of tobacco products before fleeing the scene.
A second burglary occurred just a week later, on Tuesday, April 1, at around 3:18 a.m. The suspect again broke the glass of the front door to enter the store and stole more tobacco products before escaping.
Following an investigation, law enforcement officials arrested a local man on Wednesday, April 2, and charged him with two counts of burglary in connection with both incidents. The suspect is currently being held at Riverside Regional Jail without bond. Authorities have not released the man’s identity at this time.
Both burglaries remain under investigation. The Hopewell Police Department is urging anyone with information related to these incidents to contact them at 804-541-2284.
While the case is still ongoing, the quick arrest in this case suggests that police were able to gather sufficient evidence, potentially including surveillance footage or witness statements, to identify the suspect.
