High school students get head start on early childhood training

Minot, North Dakota – Students in high school can receive dual credit toward certification in early childhood education.

One of the preschool programs offered by the daycare and preschool center Head Start will be transferred to the Minot Workforce Academy.

Through the windows in another area, high school students can view the preschool.

According to Pam Stroklund, director of professional and technical education for Minot Public Schools, juniors and seniors enrolled in the early childhood learning lab will receive theory instruction in a conventional classroom setting while touring the Head Start preschool.

She said that in order for students to get credits toward an associate’s degree in child development, they have partnered with Dakota College at Bottineau.

“They still will have the opportunity to go out to other early childhood areas in the community to get some more clinical experience,” said Stroklund.

After Labor Day, the academy’s Head Start early childhood learning program will begin operations.
