RICHMOND, Va. — A Henrico man has turned himself in to authorities following a deadly shooting in South Richmond last month. Walter Coleman, 58, voluntarily surrendered to police on January 22, facing charges of murder and the use of a firearm in connection with the shooting that occurred on December 14, 2024.
The incident unfolded shortly after 1:15 p.m. that Saturday, when officers responded to a reported robbery in the 3600 block of Richmond Highway. The call was later upgraded to a shooting as authorities arrived on the scene and discovered 37-year-old Wesley Jefferson, of Richmond, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.
Jefferson was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The cause and manner of his death are being determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Coleman, a resident of Henrico, is now in police custody as the investigation continues. Detectives are urging anyone with further information about the incident to contact Major Crimes Detective G. Russell at 804-646-7715.
