Henrico County Bridge Over I-64 Closed Due to Power Outage

Henrico County, VA — A bridge over Interstate 64 in Henrico County has been closed “until further notice” following a power outage that affected traffic lights. The closure, which impacts Skipwith Road at the bridge located between Anoka Road and Wistar Street, was announced around 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12.

According to officials from Henrico County, both the Henrico County Department of Public Works and the Henrico County Police Division determined that the power outage, combined with ongoing bridge rehabilitation work, made the road unsafe for drivers. The bridge construction, which began in the spring of 2023, had already limited travel to two-way alternative traffic directed by temporary signals. The power outage has compounded the issue, resulting in the road’s complete closure.

At this time, there is no estimated timeframe for when the road will reopen. In the meantime, drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.

Additionally, county officials are working with Dominion Energy to restore power to other traffic lights in the western part of the county. While those intersections remain open, motorists are being instructed to treat them as four-way stops. Affected intersections include:

  • Glenside Drive and Forest Avenue
  • Patterson Avenue at Horsepen Road

As of 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dominion Energy reported that 9,627 homes and businesses were without power in the area.

Residents and commuters are urged to stay updated on road conditions and power restoration efforts as crews continue to work on the situation.
