Greene County Man Arrested on Multiple Child Pornography Charges

Greene County, Va. — A 33-year-old man from Greene County has been arrested on charges related to child pornography, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest follows an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit, which uncovered images of a sexual nature involving minors under the age of 18.

The investigation, which began after the ICAC received information about the suspect, identified Steven Kyle Edward Smith of Madison County and Ruckersville, Virginia, as the individual allegedly responsible for downloading the illicit images. Authorities executed a search warrant at Smith’s temporary residence in Madison County on March 14, but he was not home at the time.

Smith was later located in the town of Culpeper, where he was arrested by law enforcement officials. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Smith is facing several felony charges in connection with the case, including:

  • Possession, reproduction, distribution, solicitation, and facilitation of child pornography
  • Taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship

Smith is currently being held without bond at the Culpeper County Jail as the investigation continues. The authorities have urged anyone with additional information about the case to come forward and contact Sergeant Kaitlyn Schmitt or Investigator Matthew Harlow at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at 434-985-2222.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the Sheriff’s Office’s ICAC unit in combating online crimes involving children. The authorities are committed to pursuing individuals who exploit minors and ensuring that they are held accountable for their actions.
