Former West Fargo teacher convicted of luring minor

West Fargo, North Dakota – A former West Fargo teacher was found guilty of luring a child by computer.

Ronald Thompson, 59, is accused of communicating with a 14-year-old girl, according to prosecutors.

Thompson was attempting to solicit a juvenile online after West Fargo police got a tip from an out-of-state investigator on Jan. 28. Thompson was attempting to entice a “minor” who was actually an out-of-state investigator acting as a juvenile.

The jury deliberated for roughly four hours, according to Assistant Cass County States Attorney Ryan Younggren.

Thompson may face up to ten years in prison and a $20,000 fine, according to Younggren. It was decided to conduct a pre-sentence investigation. There has yet to be a sentencing date scheduled.

Thompson worked as a high school teacher in Sheyenne and West Fargo.
