HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Naseem Roulack, the inmate who escaped from Bon Secours Saint Mary’s Hospital in Henrico County earlier this year, pleaded guilty on November 26, 2024, in Henrico Circuit Court, just days before his scheduled two-day jury trial.
Roulack, who was serving a 13-year sentence for aggravated malicious wounding, grand larceny, and hit-and-run, was sentenced to five years in prison, with two years of the sentence suspended. Additionally, he was placed on five years of probation, which will begin upon his release.
Roulack’s escape occurred on the morning of August 12, 2023, while he was being guarded at the hospital. The two Virginia Department of Corrections officers assigned to watch him during his medical stay later admitted to falling asleep during the time of his escape. Both officers resigned from their positions less than two weeks later in the wake of the incident.
After the escape, authorities launched an extensive search for Roulack, who remained on the run for several months. On October 25, 2023, he was apprehended by U.S. Marshals and Fairfax County police at a hotel in Fairfax County. During the arrest, Roulack attempted to flee by jumping from a third-floor window while armed with an assault rifle. He injured his arm in the fall, dropped the weapon, and continued to flee before being captured by authorities.
Roulack’s escape and the subsequent manhunt garnered significant attention, particularly after the lapse in security that allowed him to break free from the hospital. His guilty plea marks the end of the legal proceedings related to his escape, although it remains unclear whether additional charges might be forthcoming.
