CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. — A driver was killed Saturday morning after their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 southbound in Caroline County.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. on May 24 near mile marker 108, about two miles south of the Ladysmith exit. Authorities reported that a tractor-trailer transporting biohazard medical waste was stopped on the right shoulder of the highway for roughly 10 minutes before being struck from behind by a black Subaru Outback traveling at an estimated speed of 70 miles per hour.
The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of their injuries. Their identity has not been released pending family notification.
The truck driver, identified as 54-year-old Larry Williams of New Jersey, was cited for improper stopping on the highway.
As a result of the collision, the southbound center lane and right lane were temporarily closed, causing traffic delays in the area.
Virginia State Police continue to investigate the incident.
