CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. — A Thursday evening crash in Caroline County resulted in one fatality and left another person with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred on Thursday, January 23, along Route 1 near Cool Water Drive, near Lake Caroline. Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to the scene, where two vehicles—a pick-up truck and an SUV—were involved in the crash.
The driver of the pick-up truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was transported to a nearby hospital with severe injuries, described as life-threatening. No other individuals were in either vehicle at the time of the collision.
As a result of the crash, Route 1 was closed in both directions while authorities worked to clear the scene. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) implemented detours to help drivers avoid the area. The road was reopened shortly before 11 p.m. on the same evening, following the completion of the investigation at the scene.
At this time, neither of the individuals involved in the crash has been identified, as authorities are awaiting notification of their families. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
