BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. — A 21-year-old man has been identified as the driver in a fatal crash that occurred early on March 23, 2025, in Brunswick County.
According to Virginia State Police (VSP), the crash took place at approximately 4:03 a.m. on Old Bridge Road, east of Liberty Road. Authorities responded to reports of a single-vehicle accident with life-threatening injuries. Upon arrival, troopers found a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis in the middle of the roadway, severely damaged. The driver, later identified as Jukwanta Demond Nicholson of Brunswick County, was pronounced dead at the scene.
VSP’s preliminary investigation suggests that Nicholson was traveling westbound on Old Stage Road when he lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road and striking several large trees on the passenger side.
Nicholson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Investigators believe that speed and alcohol were contributing factors to the fatal incident.
The investigation is ongoing, and VSP is urging motorists to exercise caution while traveling, particularly in adverse conditions. Authorities also remind drivers of the importance of seatbelt use and the dangers of impaired driving.
This tragedy marks another reminder of the dangers of speeding and driving under the influence, as well as the critical need to take proper precautions on the road.
