Farmers in North Dakota demand more assistance from Congress

Bismarck, North Dakota – Farmers in the Peace Garden State are requesting additional assistance from Congress.

Recently, interim government budget legislation was adopted by federal lawmakers, prolonging the Farm Bill.

The bill, which was first supposed to expire this fall, establishes five-year spending caps for programs that support agriculture and food assistance.

Congress needs to increase funding by the beginning of next year, according to the National Sustainable Agriculture Commission, which spoke with the Minot Daily News.

The North Dakota Farmers Union is also requesting improved disaster programs and more robust agricultural safety nets.
