Fargo woman sentenced to 3 decades for the death of an infant

Fargo, North Dakota – For the death of a 1-year-old infant entrusted to her care, a Fargo woman was sentenced to 30 years in jail.

Brandi Adeleke, 38, was sentenced Monday by a Cass County District Court judge after pleading guilty to homicide and child abuse.

Meka Ducheneaux died in November 2020 from blunt-force injuries, according to medics. Adeleke said she discovered the toddler unresponsive in the shower after leaving her alone.

Judge Steven Marquart adopted a joint recommendation from the prosecution and defense on the sentencing. After serving 25 years, Adeleke will be eligible for parole.
