Excavator Crash on I-95 Near E. Parham Road Leads to Multiple Vehicle Collisions and Traffic Disruptions

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — An excavator truck collided with an overpass on southbound Interstate 95 near E. Parham Road at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, triggering a series of events that led to a secondary crash involving five vehicles.

According to Virginia State Police (VSP), the crash occurred when the excavator struck the overpass, causing debris to fall onto the roadway. The falling debris resulted in the pile-up of five vehicles, though fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported.

Crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) responded to the scene and are currently evaluating the structural integrity of the overpass to determine whether repairs are necessary. Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area, as traffic has been significantly impacted, with extensive delays expected.

As part of the ongoing investigation and cleanup efforts, both the northbound and southbound ramps (43B) from Route 295 to I-95 have been closed. Traffic is being diverted onto alternative routes, including Interstate 295 and Parham Road.

Authorities are working to clear the scene as quickly as possible to restore normal traffic flow. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes and remain cautious while navigating the area.

At this time, no serious injuries have been reported, but the investigation into the crash and potential damage to the overpass is ongoing.
