Fargo, North Dakota – Trey Lance, a former NDSU Bison quarterback, appears to be enjoying a change of pace.
According to ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers are trading their prior third-round pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
Lance learned last week that Sam Darnold had defeated him for the position of backup quarterback to starting quarterback Brock Purdy.
Lance was the subject of trade rumors all offseason. Last year, in Week 2, he hurt his right ankle, but Purdy still started and did well.
In order to advance and select Lance at number three overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Niners originally dealt three first-round picks and a third-round pick to the Miami Dolphins. However, Lance missed most of his rookie season due to a fractured right index finger and then encountered another setback last year when he sustained an ankle injury.
