Elderly B.C. Man on Trial for 2017 Murder of Allen Skedden

Richmond, VA – An elderly B.C. man is now on trial in the B.C. Supreme Court, facing a second-degree murder charge more than seven years after the body of a North Delta man was discovered in East Richmond. Adrianus Johannes Rosbergen, 73, is accused of killing 52-year-old Allen William Skedden, whose body was found near Fraserwood Park by the Fraser River on March 3, 2017.

Skedden had been reported missing to Delta police after leaving his residence in North Delta on February 21, 2017. He was last seen that day at Queensborough Landing in New Westminster, located less than four kilometers from where his body was later discovered. The investigation into Skedden’s disappearance eventually led to Rosbergen, who was charged with second-degree murder in February 2022.

The charge was sworn on February 26, 2022, and Rosbergen was granted $20,000 bail in March of that year. His trial began in 2024, and is being heard before a jury with Justice Wendy Baker presiding. The trial, which is scheduled to last for 20 days, is currently at its halfway point.

Rosbergen’s name surfaced in Richmond city council minutes from June 2010, where he was identified as the owner of a property at 23060 Westminster Highway. The property, which was found to contain an accumulation of vehicles and discarded materials, led the city to hire a contractor to remove the items at Rosbergen’s expense.

As the trial continues, the jury is expected to hear more details surrounding Skedden’s death and the circumstances leading to Rosbergen’s charge.
